Expensive and with a long wait, but this home truly can't be without solid wood veneer.

scovering the grain was wrong upon arrival and sending it back for rework (another two weeks' wait), plus uneven coloring in some areas (also requiring rework), it took almost half a year in total. But!!! The final result is truly stunning. The matte texture and smooth feel are incomparable to melamine boards or engineered wood veneers.
Here are some tips to avoid wood veneer disasters:
1. Don't be afraid of the hassle!!!
If you find rework troublesome or don't want to wait, I suggest considering melamine boards, which are easier to maintain. Brands like Egger offer beautiful melamine boards that are less prone to grain mishaps and are more reliable.
Solid wood veneer always carries a certain risk of problems, including but not limited to issues like overly copied grain patterns, uneven coloring, and discrepancies between the finished product and the sample. Therefore, the homeowner needs to be very attentive to detail when choosing a custom-made product (even if it costs more), or the vendor can be willing to correct any mistakes.
2. Grain Selection: Personally, I think a natural mix, or mixed mix, is the best looking, combining mountain grain and straight grain. Note that the ratio of straight grain to mountain grain should ideally be around 3:1. Too much mountain grain can look messy, which is where many people make mistakes.
For small areas, such as doors, I suggest a natural mix or all straight grain. My doors are all straight grain (because the doors are small, and I was worried that a natural mix would look too messy).
3. Color Selection: My personal advice is to ask the vendor to provide several samples and display them in your actual home. Don't view it in the showroom; the lighting there differs from your home. Compare the color at home under various angles and lighting conditions, and in different times of day (morning, noon, and evening). Also, don't lay it flat; stand it upright. How you position it will affect the color of the wood veneer.
4. Veneer Thickness
Note that the thickness of the veneer greatly affects the texture. Aim for thicker veneers; you can ask the seller about this.
5. Italian Semi-Transparent Finish
I think a matte finish wood veneer has a more sophisticated feel. Some sellers will show a semi-transparent sample, but the actual finish won't be the one you get! Make sure to discuss this with the seller! Italian semi-transparent finishes generally have a matte texture and feel great to the touch.
6. Veneer Width
Make sure each veneer is wide enough; don't make them too narrow. Narrow veneers tend to look spliced together, and the possibility of color variations between individual veneers increases.
