About My Home’s Natural Wood-Veneer Wardrobe

Many friends have asked to see my wardrobe, so today I’m going to give you the full rundown.
Like the rest of my custom-built cabinetry, the wardrobe follows a natural wood aesthetic featuring solid wood veneer—specifically, a "mountain grain" pattern. Looking back, I remember agonizing over the choice of the mountain grain for quite a long time; my main fear was that it would turn out to be a disaster. My interior designer advised me against it, and the owner of the custom cabinetry firm even jokingly dubbed me a "pioneer"—someone daring enough to be the first to try something new. Yet, after much deliberation, I decided to take the plunge. I made numerous trips to the factory to personally hand-pick the specific mountain-grain veneers—and fortunately, the final result turned out quite well.
One particularly important point is to ensure you select a *fine* mountain grain. The rich texture imparted by such natural wood patterns is simply incomparable to that of a straight-grain finish. In terms of craftsmanship, a semi-transparent finish works beautifully; it prevents the grain from appearing overly dominant while still allowing you to faintly perceive—and feel—the tactile texture of the wood beneath your fingertips. It strikes a perfect balance.
To be honest, looking back on it now, I feel the wardrobe handles really should have been designed as integrated push-to-open mechanisms. This would have created a superior visual effect, making the wardrobe appear as a seamless feature wall. However, from a purely practical standpoint, the recessed handles I ultimately chose are indeed the more functional option.
