Board knowledge, 4 common planing methods for solid wood veneer!
ⒶSolid wood veneer is a common veneer used in furniture manufacturing and decoration industries. It has natural and beautiful texture, healthy and environmentally friendly, and no odor! Veneer is mainly obtained by peeling logs. Due to the different characteristics of tree species, the peeling methods are slightly different. Let's take a look at 4 common planing methods!
➊Circular peeling method
ⒶIn peeling, a whole log is placed in the mold on the lathe and rotated according to the rotation of the blade. If the log does not roll, the peeling of a log can be carried out continuously during rotary cutting.
ⒶThe veneer produced by this method presents a variety of textures according to the growth rings of the wood and the different levels of fibers. The width of the peeled veneer is so large that a whole sheet of veneer can be processed. However, this cutting method produces some asymmetrical textures because of the discontinuity of the texture, so it is mostly used in peeling rare species, such as Sapele.
➋Semi-circular cutting method
ⒶFor those logs that are not peeled veneers, they will be cut into two halves, three halves, four halves or more. We fix it on the lathe plate and then rotate it. This method increases the width of the veneer under radius processing.
ⒶThe semi-circular cutting method was usually considered to accelerate the production of veneers with different textures in a certain tree species.
ⒶThis cutting method usually also obtained some flat-cut veneer texture phenomena in the past.
➌Flat cutting method
ⒶThe most common is the processing of high-grade veneers. The two-half, three-half or even four-half cutting method is usually to vacuum the backboard on the lathe, with the heart of the tree away from the blade. This method can cut veneers of the same length.
ⒶThe flat cutting method can make the veneer texture continuous, mainly peeling species such as ash, oak, etc.
ⒶThe veneer produced by this method is very suitable for the production of walls, door panels and furniture because its texture can be spliced continuously.
➍Quarterly peeling
ⒶIt is a cutting method to obtain straight-grained veneer, which can avoid the phenomenon of tiger stripes in certain tree species. When quartering, the log is fixed on the lathe and then rotated.
ⒶThe angle of the quartered wood on the cutting bed is fixed. As the lathe rotates, the blade will cut the veneer with straighter texture at a certain angle. Moreover, the veneer cut out by peeling has no other messy textures, the straight grain is continuous and easy to splice.
