Look at the texture: natural vs copy and paste
Solid wood
- The texture is naturally irregular, and the texture of each board is "unique"
- The texture on the front, back and sides extends continuously (like the effect of cutting a tree trunk)
Veneer
- The texture is so perfect that it looks like copy and paste, especially when the same pattern appears repeatedly (for example, the patterns of two cabinet doors are symmetrical)
- The side/back suddenly breaks (the veneer joint is exposed)
Tip: Use a flashlight to shine on the surface from the side, the veneer wood will reflect unevenly, and the solid wood will have a soft luster!

Pick the edge: There are tricks at the joint!
Veneer furniture likes to cut corners at the joints, drawer bottoms, and the inside of the cabinet!
1. Pick at the corners: veneer wood is easy to warp, and even thin veneer can be picked out (solid wood can't be picked out)
2. Look at the cross section: the texture of the solid wood cross section is consistent with the surface, and the veneer cross section is rough (may be density board + veneer)
3. Touch the bottom: if the bottom of the table/cabinet is smooth and has no wood grain, it is most likely veneer!
⚠️ Focus on checking furniture that the merchant says is "solid wood frame"! Maybe only the frame is solid wood, and the inner board is all veneer!

✅ Solid wood
- The knocking sound is dull and heavy, like knocking on a tree trunk
- There is a natural wood smell (pine fragrance/oak sourness), no pungent glue smell
❌ Veneer
- The knocking sound is crisp and hollow (the bottom layer is particle board/density board)
- There is a clear smell of glue and paint (industrial glue for inferior veneer)
✨ Self-made artifact: If you scratch an inconspicuous place with a key, veneer wood will leave a white mark (the bottom layer of the board is exposed white), and the color of the scratch on solid wood is consistent with the surface!

Merchants' classic words to avoid thunder
❌ "This is solid wood veneer, which is more cost-effective!"
👉 Subtext: The bottom layer is a cheap board, but it is sold as solid wood at a premium!
❌ "The frame is pure solid wood, and other parts are made of composite materials"
👉 Subtext: Only 20% is solid wood, and the rest is all veneer + density board!
