Multi-layer board—also known as plywood—is essentially created by stacking thin layers of wood veneer in an alternating grain pattern and bonding them together under high heat and pressure.

When viewed from the side, the layered structure is clearly visible.

① How is the cost of multi-layer board calculated?

It is usually purchased by the sheet and then converted to a price per square meter (m²).

Common specifications:

1220 × 2440mm ≈ 2.98 m²/sheet

Assuming a 12mm sheet costs 90 yuan:

90 ÷ 2.98 ≈ 30 yuan/m²

If a product actually uses 0.5 m²:

30 × 0.5 = 15 yuan

This represents only the theoretical material cost.

Actual production must account for material waste during cutting—especially for irregularly shaped products—so you cannot assume 100% material utilization.

Multi-layer board pricing depends mainly on:

Thickness + Veneer material + Number of layers + Board grade + Environmental safety rating

② How is multi-layer board processed?

Common workflow:

Cutting → CNC machining → Drilling/Grooving → Sanding → Edge banding → Painting/Veneering → Assembly

Because the boards are dimensionally stable and come in large sizes, they are ideal for mass production via CNC.

③ Why aren't some products made of solid wood?

The biggest advantages of multi-layer board:

✅ Resistant to cracking and warping
✅ Good strength and screw-holding capability
✅ Cost-effective for large-sized products
✅ Easy to process with CNC

The disadvantages are also quite apparent:

❌ Visible layers on the edges
❌ Lacks the natural texture of solid wood
❌ Significant quality differences between grades
❌ High adhesive usage; environmental safety ratings require attention

So, don't simply think of it as:

"Multi-layer board = cheap solid wood."

The strengths of solid wood lie in its natural grain and texture;

The true strengths of multi-layer board are stability, strength, and cost control. Choosing materials depends on the product structure, selling price, and usage scenario.
