Wood veneer textures that designers must know!

1⃣️ Straight line grain

Straight line grain is the radial section grain, and the tangential section is formed near the secondary wood of the sapwood.

The grain that most woods have is the grain with the largest share of furniture grain and the most commonly used material grain. Cutting perpendicular to the annual ring line can get more straight lines. The grain lines of straight lines should be straight and dense.

2⃣️ Mountain grain

The mountain grain is also called parabolic grain. It is a beautiful large parabolic pattern formed by the tangential section.

The mountain grain grain is like a mountain peak, and it is superimposed layer by layer, from the mountain grain to the wave grain, and is often accompanied by straight grain on both sides. The denser the wood grain line, the higher the hardness and the better the quality.

3⃣️ Golden burl grain

The golden burl grain is the section grain of the black walnut burl, which is the tree's response to injuries from the outside world, such as blocked insect infection or damage caused by impact.

Due to the local excess of nutrients caused by the rupture of the sieve tube, disordered cell division causes tumor-like tissue. It is basically scar tissue, usually appearing at the roots or on the trunk close to the ground, because the fibers are all twisted together, forming a complex and beautiful pattern.

4⃣️Wave pattern

One of the most beautiful patterns in black walnut grain, the tangential section grain, that is, the tangential section.

The section perpendicular to the ray and parallel to the annual ring produces wave patterns.
The core of the wave pattern is the water drop pattern. The greater the distance between the wave grain lines, the looser the wood is.

5⃣️Bird peck pattern

It is said to be bird peck, but there are many reasons for its formation. In layman's terms, it is a knot.

Texture stains caused by bird pecks, branches, bullet holes and other factors are sometimes contained in the endogenous bark. There is a complete texture connection with the surrounding structure, no fracture is formed, and there is no pith structure.

6⃣️Water drop pattern

The tangential section grain, the center of the wave grain forms a water drop-like grain.

The water drop pattern is actually the center of a growth ring. It is easy to form when the board is cut due to the uneven and irregular wood medullary rays. However, this part of the wood is also the sparsest, lightest, and softest. It is usually surrounded by wave patterns or mountain patterns.
